Concept sketch for the attack on the S.S.Hellas in Piraeus Harbour 1941. The purpose of this concept is to work out the cgi requirements for a scene in the feature "Journey of a Story" which I am producing concept art and vfx solutions for.
The image is a combination of reference photos and handpainting.. These are sourced from historical records of WW2/Pearl Harbour as well as a boat reference for the Hellas.

The film is low-budget so we are looking at achieving solutions to sell the location to the audience through a small number of establishing shots for each environment, while keeping the budget for vfx to a minimum.

This concept needs to sell the idea of a night-time attack on a harbour in Greece, establish an 'attack' palette and atmosphere for the scene. The film is an intimate account of a returning serviceman, not a full-out war movie, so this concept should reflect a less sweeping big attack, and more of a 'memory' as the scene takes place in flashback,
